285 ~ the Music of Life

Play me a song
Of life’s journeys on the keys
On a classic grand piano
Symphony and melodies

Play me a tune
Of the crescendo ups and downs
Trailing fingers on the ivory
Such a bittersweet sound

Keys of white are of the happiness
While the black are of the pain
But without one another
The song wouldn’t be the same

♥

The music video below is reminiscent of the 1969 film,” They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” which is based on a novel of the same name by Horace McCoy. This is my favorite song from Jack’s Mannequin.

Have you ever been alone in a crowded room
when I’m here with you?

darkblueI said the world could be burning
’til there’s nothing but dark blue

  1. ahhh music, piano, life’s journeys … I think my piano has more black keys than white … runs and counts … hmmmm …. Enjoyed this poem!

    • Hmm… I’d get Isabelle to take a look at it. She might have stolen some white keys 😉 hahaha. Even if your piano has more black keys than white, you still exude an upbeat, energetic personality M. 🙂

      • Now that would not surprise me. I have to move the couch once a week to find everything I seem to have somehow or other lost. And thanks, I am trying to maintain that persona for the sake of others 🙂

        • Kitties can be so naughty sometimes. My parent’s cat likes to hide things all over the house like it’s an Easter egg hunt 24/7, or knock stuff over, it is too cute! As for maintaining the persona, it is commendable you do it for the sake of others, but perhaps you shouldn’t have to. I know it gets tiring. ^_^

  2. yes, it is hard to miss your beauty…fun poem on the ebony ivory theme (forget who did that before) – but a great idea. And the song works beautifully too. Have we ever been alone in a crowded room…they are working a well known theme too…and yes, we have. Thanks Britt, your entire site is, well, beautiful.

  3. I love this one! I like the way you’ve compared the sounds of the black or white keys to the feelings of life. I’ve always felt that about the piano keys, different notes indicating a feeling in them! And yes, if we had no pain, we wouldn’t know happiness when we finally saw it. We have no choice but to suffer both! 😀

    • When I used to play, I could tell when I hit the wrong keys, and when playing chords, it was a combination of both black/white keys that came together to make one beautiful sound. 🙂 Such is life.

Did you know that before your flower post, I was going to write about growth and flowers? You know we really need to stop doing that. hahahaha ♥

      • You’re right. What if nothing “bad” never happened, how would we even know what good is. But even still I’d like to see what all good would be like and then go from there, ha.

        • Haha yes, I remember the conversation we had for your chart post of ups and downs. I’m not sure if one can fully appreciate the good things if it weren’t for the bad to off-set it. Same thing goes for people. Gotta meet the rotten ones to fully appreciate a good catch when you’ve got.

  4. Look at you remembering past things again ;). I like your memory. And when you busted me on sending you the same song twice, I was like dang that’s usually my job remembering stuff like that, ha. Once again you just said what I said to someone the other day. If we met “the one” first, we may not realize what we had. But if we navigate through all the poo first we’ll certainly appreciate and grab on to them once we find them….if we are smart 🙂
