268 ~ Dance

If I am ever feeling sad
Sometimes I write it out
Other times I sing the words out loud
Or I just let my body shout

For there is a word in each movement
A fluid physical poetry
One that is not penned on paper
But in my blood that sets me free

If my mind finds a reason to worry
I’ll stomp it out with my own two feet
Drown it out to the sound of the rhythm
Let it race against my heartbeat

They say some dance to remember
And some dance to forget
So I’ll dance until I find myself
Until I out dance past regrets

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
Given half the chance would I take any of it back?
danceIt’s a fine romance but it’s left me so undone
It’s always darkest before the dawn

  1. great poem, not quite as keen on Florence Nightingale I am afraid…lol. Breaking plates on head and whatnot, I should like it, but I would not let her whip me…no way. She looks too much like an aunt I never had, nor wanted….God I am stupid tonight aren’t I? Sorry for doing this here…but I think I will blame Florence. You know, Nightingale.

  2. Yes! This totally resonates with me! The body has its own poetic language and form of creative expression! I love the last lines – I’ll dance until I find myself until I out dance past regrets! And I love how your poem relates to the song Shake it out. Great post! πŸ™‚

    • Even if one were to have two left feet, it is liberating to sway your body in this form of expression. I try to tie all the songs, poetry and pictures together – makes it more cohesive, thank you ^_^

  3. I love the message here of stomping out the worry – removing the negative vibes!! πŸ™‚ Some people really do dance just to do this – spiritual or otherwise. Must be some association in our brains to do with movement – moving on and not being stagnant. And that certainly comes across in the video. I know the song well – love Florence And The Machine! But I hadn’t seen that video before – she really does shake it off in there!!! πŸ˜€

    • I absolutely love this video, and I do dance like her to this song when the need arises. πŸ˜€

Dance has always been a part of me ever since I was a child. I could never stay still for the life of me, so whenever I hear a song, my body just automatically moves. And that necessity has never left me til now.

    • Some days it’s all I can do to get rid of the thoughts that plague me. Most of the time it works, but today I don’t think I danced hard enough to sweat out the bad thoughts; to purge them out through the sweat *sigh*

    • Thank you GE (aka Bradley) ^_^. I think I prefer your nickname. Reminds me of a washing machine for some reason, and I smile because of it, hahaha. Or dance machine, my mind wanders off at times πŸ˜›

  4. running, hiking, dancing, swimming

    aerobic trances

    silencing mind

    breathing new life

    new music

    through bodies

    we’re made to move

    • That is wonderful! I’m the only dancer in the family :/ Have no idea where it comes from, but my parents have videos of me dancing as a child. Guess some are just born with music in their blood, so when the jam starts, the body will instantly move to the beat! πŸ˜›
