Aviation Mémoires: The Girl Who Saw Two Faces

She asked God to protect her from her enemies

So each day she lost a friend

Of those born with the mark of a monster

But donned the masks of men

  1. so true, taking one for granted is a weakness….I do not take my wife for granted, nor does she me. we are equals in everything, and neither puts themselves first. that was our dogs place….lol. wonderful write.

    • It happens quite often but I can see why. We tend to believe if someone loves us, then they are always going to be there – come hell or high water. But some people abuse that fact. I am glad to hear that neither you nor your wife has succumbed to such ways of thinking. As for the dog. 😛 I’ve had enough pups to know how they are, but they still remain loyal than most people. 😉

  2. Excellent poem, brought back a flood of poetic memories. It reminded me of my poem below, as well as the one by Yeats (my favorite deceased poet), and some lyrics by Norma Jean. I thought I’d share all of them as they might be found interesting. I often leave long comments for those bloggers who catch my attention or are friendly with me, and connections with things I make in poets poems between other poems and songs, so this kind of comment is normal behavior for me. If it weirds you out, I won’t apologize for just being me. 🙂

“Seven Masked Absences, While One Face’s Fact (Haiku)”
    by Ry Hakari

    Count on masks we wear
You can’t on us to be there
    Underneath, we’re air

    Seven will ensnare
    Second chances go nowhere
    Ending in affair

    Just one cares to share
Her lush love fuller than bare
    Of dreams than nightmare

“An Irish Airman Forsees His Death”
    by William Butler Yeats

I know that I shall meet my fate
    Somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate,
    Those that I guard I do not love;
    My county is Kiltartan Cross,
    My countrymen Kiltartan’s poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds,
    A lonely impulse of delight
    Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

    “High Noise Low Output”
    by Norma Jean

    Yeah…
And I sat through a thousand suns, much sooner than you arrived, and I know what you’re thinking:
“Just pull the ripcord and let’s descend.”

You put your parachutes on parade and you left the pilots on the ground,
but if you’re calling me in, then you better believe I’m gonna call you out.

If you’re calling me in, I’m gonna call you out.

Who knows the cost and what may escape you and I,
’cause it’s a long way down from here.
I have a feeling that we won’t be landing soon.

Parachutes on parade and you left the pilots on the ground,
but if you’re calling me in, then you better believe I’m gonna call you out.

We’re standing at these doors, whether cowards or conquerors.
They make no promises, they just provide an opening.
And your speech is a thunderous noise, and my ears are catching a dreadful static.

You put your parachutes on parade and you left the pilots on the ground,
but if you’re calling me in, then you better believe I’m gonna call you out…
    out… out… out… out… out.. out.

Yeah… If you’re calling me in, I’m gonna call you out.

    • I believe that in order to connect, one needs to reach out to another – respectfully of course. If we didn’t, WordPress would be a rather stagnant place. Thank you for the insightful comment and song. I love music (which is an understatement). In the previous year, I would ask other bloggers to recommend songs to me to broaden my musical horizons. So I do see them sometimes in my comment section or they are sent via email. And many of my old posts are a mix of music and poetry – a normal occurrence, so your message fits at home here. Hello, and welcome. 😀

  3. you sure do know how to make a guy feel special 🙂

This piece is proof that length does not necessarily beget depth. We all could feel every bit as vested in this as any 5 paragraph story. Wonderfully done,

  5. Many try to hide behind masks in their lives, yet seeing eyes are receptive enough to recognize their actions which are each day so easily viewed. You words reveal what your keen spiritual eyesight has taught you and also allowed you to remember. So when you write, it is always so genuine and real. Always a blessing to walk with you through your words Brit! Have a beautiful day my beloved sister! Blessings and hugs!
