There was a girl in love with the universe
Who wrote letters in the sand
Hair as dark as raven feathers
Eyes the color between sky and land
50 shades of pink inked in veins
Heartbeats buttoned up her sleeves
24 ribs of which were broken
Fractured from lying, manipulative thieves
And she kept running into trouble
Scars on palms from those she touched
So she ran away into hiding
Safe from those who broke her trust
She forgot how beautiful the world was
The acts of kindness people gave
Those who reached out arms in comfort
Made her fearful instead of brave
One night she asked, why don’t you love me?
To which the universe replied
“How could you expect to let love in
With full on armor and sword at your side?”
Sure, the world may have its’ devils
And not everyone will be a friend
But if you close your heart completely
Then it will never, ever mend

I’ve been wondering about you. You’ve been very quiet of late. Wonderful poem, nice image. Happy to see your work.
Thank you Tim. This is something I wrote quite awhile back but couldn’t seem to pull together til now. It’s nice to be able to write again or to at least finish a piece. Hope the holidays have been treating you well.
What time do you call this young lady?
Where on earth have you been?
We’ve all been worried sick you know… I’ll presume that your excellent poem is somewhat autobiographical, in which case it’s good to know that you are in love with the universe again.
There is a quote that I love and I think it perfectly sums up your current situation and it is…
There was a young man of Bengal
Who went to a fancy dress ball.
He went just for fun
Dressed up as a bun,
And a dog ate him up in the hall.
Oh oh!! Errrmmm… I may have to get back to you on that one.
Good to see you back.
Don’t let the bastards get you down.
Did a bit of traveling, still hiking, and added lazy river tubing to the list of earthly good fun 😀
As for the quote… hit me back up on that one, lol.
Thank you Mark ^__^
Wonderful
Hi John! x
Nice work and good to see you back here as well 🙂
Hopefully that photo doesn’t come out too large. Tried to re-size it The original is here: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/072/8/3/goldfish_by_minari23-d5xwrfg.jpg , but it seems as if they have taken it down off their gallery. Thought it was a cool deviantart drawing though of goldfishies.
Cheers mate, you have made my day 🙂 Happy goldfish..
^_______^ that makes me super duper happy.
And ya can’t get better than that 😀
Well done.
Thank you Luke.
I believe that I detected some introspective optimism. Well done!
^___^ and you would be correct in that belief Norm.
This is FANTASTIC. I’m so proud of you. 🙂
Thank you Li *huggles*
It was a lovely moment to see a poem written by you again! Sometimes one has to get away, I understand. Your words still radiate an awesome glow. Hugs and blessings to you dear sister and ‘Happy New Year'”
So much time away… and when I think I’m coming back for awhile, life tends to pull me in another direction. It’s nice to be here though, to keep in touch with everyone. The community here is of a different caliber than in real life or on other platforms. Hope everything is going well with you. I see you’re still writing 😀 Hugs & blessings to you as well my brother. And if we don’t speak to one another before then, have a very wonderful New Year.

Good to see you back in action….and even though it was a while ago, it seems to tell a story of what has been happening for you….x
Thank you J. This piece is much older and I’m trying to work on the others in sequential order but I had failed to put a date on my rough drafts, lol. The story will bounce around and I think I’ll be ok with that. ^__^
Reblogged this on The Way of Possibility and Impossibility.
Humbled. Thank you. xx

ee cummings…
the challenge for most is not letting love in but rather recognizing and acknowledging the love that is already within…
That’s quite beautiful and I do enjoy reading from ee cummings. As for the challenge, there are days when introspection is hard to come by. But I find it healthy to take a break at times to not only come to a realization but also the reasoning behind it. Only then, will change come.
Old warriors have a harder lesson to learn about the folly of humanity. I really liked this.
I guess that’s why I find more comfort in teddy bears than in most people. How’s Barry by the way?
True. Barry is excellent we are about to embark on a California Burrito expedition. Freebirds opened up in San Francisco and then there’s my favorite place near Tijuana.
That sounds like a wonderful expedition, I’m excited for you! Freebirds… hmm. Haven’t been there but a quick google search has listed one in the LA area. Might have to have a little expedition of my own. More of a taco kind of lady though, lol. LOVE tacos. I’m not sure if I can stress that enough. 😀 Let me know how everything goes and hope you guys have a safe journey.
Britt, I came across your resplendent site as I was reading about the Chumash people and their culture. Very much appreciated your photos from your visit to the Santa Barbara / Channel Islands area that you posted a while ago. I wanted to let you know I’ve been encouraged from your insightful perspective and content, including this moving poem from which I drew parallels from my own life. Thank you so much. David
Hello David, I find great joy in being able to connect with people through literature. Thank you so much for writing to me. Ah, the Chumash. Haven’t been to Castle Peak in a long while, although I had promised myself I would. Perhaps during the next summer or winter solstice I shall return. ^__^
Oh how lovely! The opening of the heart is something I want to keep – and your poem reminds me of that!
Thank you, my dear.
I quite enjoy the idea of slicing into the bare flesh of someones neck with a strong, long and sharp peace of metal with a firm handle.
That is a little creepy, even if tainted with sarcasm >_<
No more out of bitter self righteous community responsibility like a vigilantie
I like this one, a lot! I haven’t heard from you in a long time and you popped into my mind so I decided to check out what was going on over here. Ended up reading a bunch of things and I enjoyed each and every one I saw. There is so much power in each of your writings. Wish I was able to write as powerful as you do (in my eyes and opinion with respect to all the others out there). Hope you are doing well. Take care 🙂 -Tyler
Hi Ty, it has been a long time since we have spoken. I hope things are well with you and I miss the pup making me signs ♥ We should all go on a hike one of these days.
